Moving!

I’ve decided to move this to a new project: http://www.michaelbradley.us

See ya there!

FireFox and Firebug

If you hadn’t heard of Firefox’s addon, Firebug, that’s ok. It’s usually used for decoding page elements that have gone ary or are just complicated.

I had to use the program to find the elements of a site created by one of those Site Builders. Obviously, the notion that documentation is important is now just the smoke left of the candle in the wind.

Check out the program. I’ve used it to add CSS to shopping cart (poorly, I must add) at www.shop.mysuperiormedical.com Fortunately, the actual program contains an area for “Advanced CSS Code” that wil allow me to continue adding code in the right locations based on information found using the Firebug add on.

IE has comprable tools, no doubt about that. And I use IE for my daily browsing needs beause it’s good. There isn’t room for discussion here because it’s a personal preference: It’s the program that I like to use.

I’ve been every where…

It’s not like I can’t complain of course.  I’m consulting, or at least working with a consulting company.  Currently, I am a senior engineer supporting 1200 users and 50 servers on Netware!  A week before that, it was an open source shopping cart.  Before that, a commercial shopping cart for a medical supply company.  And a week before that?  Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 with an AD installation/migration.  All for very cool companies including a startup, HR Consulting company, Property Managment company and a scooter distributer.

I thought NetWare was dead.  I really did.  However, their virutualization packages, streaming applications and Asset Management solution kicks the wheels off the competition.

If anybody attempts to disuade you from using Windows Vista, tell them I said it’s “OK”.  Come on, it’s not for free and applications are not free.  Of course, some free applications work on Vista quite well.

Some would agree with me and it’s because they read up on how to kill the User Access Control function.  When it’s active, it’s a frustrating little function that does a role reversal on the owner of the box.  Users typically run as Administrator when they are running on a home PC but when that user wants to run an application, this little nugget runs it as a typical user, without administrator priviledges, and asks the admin if he really WANTS to run the application.

With the UAC active, the PC would have recognized all of the appropriate programs and it would run more smoothly in a year or so, when the user has “Approved” what can be run and not be run.  It’s that first few weeks that drive new users absolutely nuts.  So, disable it.  I am not going to tell you how but there are at least three methods used.  If you find them, then you’ll have more information about the little I’ve touched on today.

Vista has proven to be able to handle almost all of my NetWare administrative functions.  Why wouldn’t it?  Most have web consoles and the others are at the file level.  If you get crazy, you can even install an XP VM on the Vista box to handle Console One.  The ZENWorks 7 components need tweaking.  I haven’t figured that out yet…. yet.

IT’S DONE!!!!!

Happy Graduation to Everybody I’ve Studied with at www.dbu.edu

My family made it to Dallas this weekend and we had a house warming party, graduation party, & just a generally awesome celebration.  Bev, Jim, Irma, and Grace made it for the celebration!  We fired up the grill for the first time in 2 years and ate the night away.

Thank you EVERYBODY for your support, dedication, and love required for us to reach this milestone!

 MB

Just a little nugget for ya:

Make sure the following line is in the .htaccess file or the general configuration file on your Apache server:

AddType text/css .css

That line of code will make your pages look right.

Bonus nugget: generally, hole cards paired stand a 9 percent chance of becoming a set for the hand. Those odds are not good, if pressured, and they are a weak pair, then toss them aside as if they were the 7/2 off suit.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas Every(one) from the Bradleys!

Do yourself a favor & download Opera

That’s Opera, not Oprah.  Opera is a web browser that isn’t bloated, has decent security, is free and you don’t know it but you’re probably using it on your phone.  You can find it here at www.opera.com

Quick Update

We bought a house.  Have I mentioned that?  The move is difficult because we’re a tad disorganized but we have painted and have most of our stuff moved in - thanks to the help of Bev!!!!!  Thanks Bev.

Abbiversary!

Today is our one year Anniversary!  Cleverly, I’ve called it our Abbiversary.

I’ve been working on two sites: 1. www.freewordsofchrist.org and 2. one for my wifey: www.abbybradley.net/blog

I’m using flickr with the second one.  It should provide a glimpse into our Santorini trip.

Nothing impressive, visually, but I did pull in the flickr photos using the WP Flickr API.  Kind of neat but a lot of tedious work.

I love you Abby.  Thank you for the wonderful year, your unwavering support, and your beautiful sense of humor.  We’ve come a long way and I’m the luckiest man in the world.

Love you,

Michael
